Uploading your HomePage to the T.Apple Server

Assuming that you have constructed a brilliant homepage, you have formatted it in HTML and your home page is named index.html, here is how to upload it.

1. Stick all the files and graphics in one folder so they won't get lost. Give the folder a short name. e.g. "foldername"
2. Open the most recent version of Fetch compatible with your operating system.
3. A New Connection window will appear.

4. In the 'Hostname' box put tapple.org If there is something already there, delete it first.
5. In the 'Username' box put your T.Apple account name.
6. In the 'Password' box put your T.Apple account password. (be careful of upper and lower case)
7. In the 'Connect Using' box select: SFTP
8. Make a Fetch shortcut to the T.Apple FTP server to use the next time you want to connect and upload to the T.Apple server.

10. Click "Connect"

A new window will come up with your account name at the top. You have been connected to folder named 'public_html'.

11. Click on the ‘Put File' box. Select the Folder you put all your files into and click "open. If you are uploading a graphic file, JPEG or GIF, the Put file window should have selected 'Format: 'Binary (Raw Data)'.

The folder named "foldername" (or whatever you named it) containing the file index.html should soon appear in the public_html folder.

12. When all files have been transfered, quit Fetch and Open up your browser. Using your browser, under the File Menu, select 'Open Location'. Type in:
http://www.tapple.org/~youraccountname (don't omit the tilde ~)/foldername/index.html

If your homepage does not come up, check all the steps above before emailing: bob@tapple.org

A few common problems are:
1. Your home page is not named index.html. Rename it and try again.
2. Your graphics do not work because you did not upload them as 'Raw Data'.
3. Items (graphics) do not work because they are misspelled.
Unix is case sensitive and file.gif is different than file.GIF

If your homepage does come up as beautiful as you imagined it would, email Bob at the same address and he will tell the world.
